”You get the opportunity to shape your own career”

”My job as a consultant at Zanders in Brussels is mainly geared towards our corporate clients. I get exposure to all aspects of the field and there are plenty of opportunities to enrich my knowledge and skills. My focus is mainly on cash and liquidity management, such as bank selections and cash management optimizations. I also work on system selection and implementation projects.”

A good meeting
”I studied commercial engineering in Antwerp, which is a five-year program that you can best compare with technical business administration. After graduating, I registered with an employment agency and it didn’t take them long to introduce me to Zanders.

To be honest, I had never heard of Zanders before, but the financial aspect of the job really appealed to me. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the first meeting, because I had only just started looking for work, but it turned out to be a pleasant, informal meeting with Laurens Tijdhof and Guy de Bie. The second meeting took place in the Netherlands and was slightly more formal, but just as enjoyable. The two meetings made it clear to me that Zanders truly suited me. Fortunately Zanders felt the same way.”

International character
”Various aspects of the role and the company appealed to me such as the international character. You work with international colleagues and you get the opportunity to travel. I was recently involved in projects in the United States, Poland, Germany and Hungary, to name a few. My list of cities visited has doubled since I started working at Zanders because the company has a really international mindset.

I also found the development opportunities very appealing. For instance, I’m doing my CFA training at the moment and there are all sorts of internal training programs you can do. And when it comes to assignment types, I can indicate what I find interesting. At Zanders you get the opportunity to shape your owncareer. My long-term plan is to become a project manager and from there I want to advance to a role where I can assist clients at a strategic level. But until then, I want to gain as much experience as possible.”
