“You work on a project together, but you retain responsibility for your own work”
Steffen joined Zanders as an analyst in 2006. He got to know Zanders via a fellow team member who works at Zanders. “We were talking about work and our studies, and when I mentioned that I was studying econometrics, he immediately asked whether I was interested in possibly joining Zanders as a student with a part-time job in the firm.”
As an analyst, Steffen came to work at the Financial Institutions department, where he was primarily concerned with the further development of a model for pension funds. “As a student working your way through university, Zanders gives you an insight into what the job of consultancy entails and you learn a lot of new things along the way, which can help you in your career.”
After his stint as a student with a part-time job, Steffen permanently joined the team as a consultant – once again within the Financial Institutions department. “During my time as a student with a part-time job, I fitted in well with the company. There was consequently no question of where I would like to end up in permanent employment. Fortunately, the rapport was mutual.”
At the moment, Steffen is working for a major bank, where he is working together with a number of colleagues on the testing of their risk management system. “The nice thing about consultancy is the variety of assignments that come your way. Before this assignment, I was working for a pension fund.”
Steffen has definitely found his niche as a Zanders consultant. “The atmosphere at work is informal and professional. Thanks to this combination, there is a lot of interaction and you can learn a lot from the knowledge of experienced colleagues.” Steffen continues: “The thing is: you work on a project together, but you do retain responsibility for your own work.”
Like all associate consultants, Steffen is also following the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program. Steffen says: “CFA is an internationally recognized program, and many thousands of professionals take part in the program every year. Zanders supports the learning process by offering internal courses about the subjects that are dealt with on the CFA program. As a result, you’re not on your own when studying for the certification!”
