“The opportunity to acquire a great deal of knowledge and to develop strong advisory skills”
Sander Bierman started to work for Zanders as a consultant in 2006. Before this, he worked for a couple of years in an ING support department: Corporate Credit Risk Management (ING CCRM). Sander says: “What was interesting about that job was on the one hand, the content, and on the other hand, the helicopter view that you need to have to do a good job in substantive terms.”

Due to the limited career development opportunities to be found within the department, Sander started to look around for a different job. That wasn’t as easy as you might expect. Sander explains: “I’m quick to become enthusiastic about something and am interested in a lot of things. While this definitely has its advantages, it also has one drawback: occasionally, it’s difficult for me to reach a decision. With the help of the ING career service, I found out exactly what I was looking for in my job. I was looking for a diverse range of activities in terms of content and environment. I was looking for opportunities for commercial business and enterprise. But at the same time, I wanted to become proficient in a particular profession and to be able to specialize myself.” Zanders rapidly came into the picture.

Attention to advisory skills and knowledge
Sander has really found his feet at Zanders. Sander found that his market risk knowledge has increased tremendously, as has his knowledge of financial products such as derivatives. Sanders adds that he has also been able to hone his skills in the area of programming (Visual Basic), saying: “Zanders offers you ample opportunities to acquire this type of knowledge. In addition, the firm pays a lot of attention to the development of advisory skills.”

At present, Sander has, among other things, developed a model dealing with unit-based property sales for a real estate investor and automated a report for the investment management department of a bank. In addition, he has made a substantial contribution to an asset model for pension funds. Furthermore, he works for Zanders Interim Services in a management role at a Belgian finance corporation.

Ambition
Sander is optimistic about his future at Zanders. “Although I’m slightly impatient and occasionally somewhat chaotic, I definitely have the ambition to develop my career towards a management position within Zanders. I am strongly attracted to the idea of directing a group of consultants who work with a healthy entrepreneurial ambition and who develop knowledge (further).” And Sander also likes his job, noting: “I find the flat organization and the broad mix of people with a variety of specific backgrounds and studies pleasant to work in. We have a lot of things in common and we work in a social, companionable atmosphere. For me personally, these matters combine to create an excellent work environment.”
