“I was quickly introduced to all sorts of aspects of risk management”
Pieter first got to know Zanders at a careers day while studying Econometrics at the University of Amsterdam. Towards the end of his studies, he chose to write his final paper as part of an internship at Zanders. “I also wanted to make a better assessment of where I should start my career. Zanders offered me that opportunity and naturally, I grabbed it.”
Open culture
The traineeship was so much to Pieter’s liking that immediately after graduating, he took up the position of associate consultant at Zanders. Pieter started in the department where he had completed his traineeship. “During my studies, I had already worked part-time at another consultancy firm, but I felt much happier at Zanders, partly because there is an open culture, a high level of independence, and because of the pleasant working atmosphere.”
Rapid development
Pieter started off by working on a model for pension funds. He was subsequently involved in an interesting project for a Dutch bank. “Zanders was asked to provide a clear picture of the interest rate risks of that bank’s savings. I was also able to contribute to that project. At the same time, I was allowed to set to work on the development of a credit risk model for corporate clients. I was quickly introduced to all sorts of aspects of risk management, which allowed me to develop very rapidly.”
Attention to personal development
Zanders sets great store by personal development, explains Pieter. “The firm offers both internal and external educational programs. In addition, you get the opportunity to develop yourself in other areas. Within a year, I was already allowed to organize a course at the Amsterdam School of Real Estate, together with one of the partners. It is both interesting and extremely educational to teach a group of people who are all older than you are. The fact that Zanders creates room for such initiatives is very special in my estimation.”
